This depends on the domain and the company it's being transferred away from. UK based domains (co.uk, org.uk, me.uk etc) can be transferred in under 24 hours. Other domains can take up to 5 working days to transfer, this is due to the processes involved.

Absolutely. Your domain can be registered with any company you like. The hosting and domain work independently to each other, this means you can have your domain with one company and your hosting with another.
When a domain is registered, your contact information is stored with the domain for legal purposes. This information is publicly available and is referred to as the WHOIS. Our domains include identity protection which allows you to opt-out of the WHOIS, protecting your identity and anonymity.
However, if you're a UK trading organisation or individual and you own a UK based domain - your WHOIS information cannot be hidden. This is a legal requirement by Nominet.
